Japanese Indigo Workshop
Suitable for Beginners and experienced.
DATES: contact me for future dates Venue : Weetangera, Belconnen, ACT
This one-day workshop will introduce you to different methods of dyeing with Japanese Indigo (Persicaria tinctoria) and how to extract the pigment from the leaves for future use.
Japanese indigo has certain enzymes within it that enables us to use it fresh, without needing a vat to reduce it. These methods produce the unique turquoise blues on protein fibres. We will explore different techniques to develop pattern and colour on silk and wool.
In addition, I will show you how easy it is to make a small vat for dyeing cellulose fibres and fabrics. This workshop is perfect for those growing their own Persicaria but need the next step with guidance. As part of the workshop you will go home with dyed samples, a silk scarf and some stems of Persicaria to start growing at home.
Please note: parts of this workshop will be conducted outdoors.
Cost: $250 includes GST, morning and afternoon teas and all materials. Please bring your own lunch.
