Introduction to Natural Dyes

Suitable for complete beginners and those wanting to understand more about the processes involved in dyeing a variety of fibre types with natural dyes so that they are colour and wash-fast.
This is a back-to-basics course where you will learn the important steps to preparing fibres and fabrics before hitting the dyebath. Correct fibre preparation is the key to dye success, and you will be taught all the steps needed for both protein and cellulose fibres.Once we have mastered the preparation, we will explore a variety of natural dyes - in fresh, powdered and extract form. Find the beauty that lies within expensive and exotic colours as well as those from weeds and food-scraps. Learn how to change the colour of your dyes using pH modifiers.This class will focus on immersion dyeing and is a perfect grounding for the complete beginner, or for those wishing to gain good dyeing habits!
Cost: $340 includes GST, all materials including personal project and morning teas both days, participants to bring their own lunch
